FAQ:

Do I need to log in?

You can listen to every published talk without logging in. When you log in, you can save your favorite talks, and if you are a Member, Curator or Manager of a collection, you can also hear its unpublished talks. Editing is done by each collection's Curators and Managers. If you would like to help edit, ask the collection's Managers to invite you as a Curator.

I can't remember my password. How do I log in?

  • Click Forgot Password. The same link is at the bottom of the Log In page.
  • Enter the email address you signed up with, or your username if you know it.
  • Check your email for a link to set a new password.

I don't have an account yet. Can I join?

  • Yes. Anyone can create an account on Engage Wisdom, to follow the many collections we host and save favorite talks.
  • A collection's Managers can invite you to help as a Curator. The invitation email lets you create an account if you do not have one yet.
  • The collections you belong to are listed on your My Account page when you are logged in.

How do I search for talks in a collection?

Click Home in the menu bar to reach the collection's search page. Enter words in the Search box to find talks where they appear in the title, description, notes or transcript. You can also narrow the list with the filters for Speaker, Location and Keywords, and combine as many filters as you like.

How do I edit a talk's information?

Talks are edited by the Curators and Managers of the collection that owns them. The Editing Guide explains each field.

Why do some talks say (AI Title) after the title?

When a recording has no official title yet, an AI title is written for it automatically. Many recordings come from tapes with handwritten labels, and the title, speaker or date can be hard to read from the photos of the tape. If you can supply missing information about a talk, please email us at help@engagewisdom.com with the talk's address, or tell one of the collection's Curators. Curators and Managers fix it with the Edit button on the talk's page.

What do Published and Unpublished mean?

A Published talk can be heard by anyone who visits the collection. An Unpublished talk is visible only to the collection's members (its Members, Curators and Managers) when they are logged in. Each collection's Managers decide which talks are published.

When listening, how can I skip ahead or back?

Click anywhere on the waveform to jump to that spot in the talk. You can also use the keyboard:

  • Play or pause: Shift + Spacebar
  • Skip forward 5 seconds: Shift + Right Arrow
  • Skip back 5 seconds: Shift + Left Arrow

Can I listen faster or slower?

Yes. The speed button on the player (it reads 1x) offers speeds from 0.5x to 3x.

Can I share unpublished talks with friends outside my collection?

Unpublished talks are kept private at the collection's request, so please don't share your login or password with anyone. If a friend belongs to the collection's community and would like to help as a Curator, they are welcome to ask one of the collection's Managers to invite them.

What is the round badge at the right end of the menu bar?

It shows the collection you are browsing in, with its logo or two initials, and it links to that collection's home page. When you are not in a collection, it shows a house icon that links to your account, or to Create Account if you are not logged in.

Page not loading or not working?

Trying a different web browser can sometimes solve the problem.

Generated Content

Engage Wisdom uses AI to draft transcripts, summaries, keywords and suggested titles for talks. A sparkles mark beside a label means that item was generated and may contain mistakes. The collection's Curators and Managers can correct generated titles, keywords and transcripts, and can generate a new AI summary. More questions and answers are coming here.
